St. John's - St. Margaret's Church LIBRARY

Welcome to our Web OPAC

Web OPAC provides the ability to search for items in the collection by means of an easy-to-use basic word search to match what you are looking for. Start by typing in some words in the Basic Search bar:

Becoming a SJSM Library Patron

If you are interested in becoming a library patron, visit https://rb.gy/eaz8n5 to fill out an application to become a member. Once approved, we will send you login details to this website so you can start reserving and borrowing books and resources.

Reserving Resources Online

To reserve, click on the book/resource to open the detail page and then click on the reserve button. An email form will appear to fill out. If you have additional questions for the librarian, include them in this email. A final notification will appear confirming the request has been sent to the librarian. Once the librarian has acquired the book/resource, an email will be sent to you confirming the book/resource has been checked out and reserved for you to pick up. We will hold the book/resource for four weeks from the date you receive the confirmation email from the librarian.

Renewing Resources Online

You can also renew resources that you've checked out. Go to the circulation page and select the box next to the resource you would like to renew. Then click on the 'Renew Selected Items' button. A message will appear letting you know that the librarian will process the item for you once it's available.

New Life Kit and New in the Faith Resources

Individuals who have completed the Alpha course will be able to visit the library and purchase their New Life Kit, as well as browse and check out New in the Faith Resources once they have completed the online application for Library Membership. There will be a designated section of the library, especially for the New in the Faith resources. Please pay for these while visiting the library with the QR code provided so we can track your purchase.

Chinese Congregation Resources

The Chinese Congregation's Library Collection is a separate library from this OPAC site and is curated and managed exclusively by the Chinese congregation. If you have questions about this collection, please feel free to email us, and we will help you get in contact with their staff.

Circulation Limits

Once you have registered as an SJSM Library member (ages 11 years and up), you may check out a limit of 5 books/resources for a total of three weeks with the Main Library Collection, the Children's Collection, and the New in the Faith Collection. For the Reference Collection, you may check out up to two resources for one week. We appreciate your attention in taking special care of these items and returning them promptly for other patrons to use. If books/resources are overdue, you will receive an email asking to return the books/resources. If the books/resources are lost, we will ask you to pay for their replacement so they can be replaced promptly.

Fines

For books and resources within the Main Library Collection, Children's Collection and the New in the Faith Collection, a fine of $.50 will begin to accrue starting after a one-week grace period beyond the three weeks allowed for borrowing these resources. For reference resources, a fine of $1.00 per week will begin to accrue after the one-week borrowing period has lapsed. Reminder emails will be sent. Payments can be made using a QR code provided at the bottom of this document.

Book Return

Return your books and resources at the orange-coloured book return right outside of the library. Please only drop overdue books in the slot, as we are currently not taking book or resource donations at this time.

Basic Searching

Type in the words for what you are looking for. A 'Keyword' search will cut a broad swath across a lot of item elements in the database. As implied by their labels, Title, Author, and Subject searches focus on those specific elements of items in the collection. You can click on the 'Keyword' drop-down in the basic search bar to perform Author, Title or Subject searches.

Results

These can be viewed either as a list or a grid - you can indicate your preferred view on the Initial Search Results screen. To view more details about a particular item of interest displayed in the Initial Search Results, click either its Book Cover image or its title.

Book Bin

The Book Bin is like a shopping cart; items can be added to it by clicking on the Book Bin button on the Item Details screen. A counter to the right of the "Book Bin" label in the Web OPAC title bar reminds you of the number of items in your bin, and clicking on this label displays the items in your bin. You can Email the bin to yourself as a reminder of the items you're interested in. You can also print it and take it with you to the library as a list [printer sold separately]. If you're set up to sign into Web OPAC as a patron, your Book Bin is saved for you until you clear it.

When you sign in, you're permitted to see the items you currently have on loan, any fines that have been levied against your account and payments made to clear them. You can also see your circulation history, which is useful if you're unsure whether you may already have borrowed an item. You're encouraged to sign out when you've finished your Web OPAC session. If your session's been idle for ten minutes, you'll be signed out of your Web OPAC account automatically.

More Information

More details about the use of the various searches are available as online Help on the Search Page itself.
